DUBAI: In the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Azizi Developments on Monday announced a groundbreaking Dh3 billion contribution to the Fathers’ Endowment campaign.

Coinciding with the month of Ramadan, the initiative was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to create a Dh1 billion sustainable endowment fund dedicated to providing healthcare for those in need.

Azizi Developments' pledge marks the largest-ever individual donation from the UAE’s private sector to a humanitarian cause.

Azizi Developments’ Dh3B pledge

The announcement came during the closing ceremony of the 5th edition of the Arab Hope Makers initiative in Dubai. Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary General of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), signed the agreement with Mirwais Azizi, Founder and Chairman of Azizi Developments.

Azizi Developments' donation will fund a humanitarian medical complex featuring a hospital, a research centre, and a medical training facility. Designed to meet the highest international healthcare standards, the project aims to ensure long-term access to medical treatment for underprivileged individuals.

A transformative initiative

The Fathers’ Endowment campaign is part of MBRGI’s broader mission to foster sustainable philanthropy. The initiative invites donations in honour of fathers, reinforcing values of gratitude, compassion, and social responsibility.

The endowment will generate continuous funding for healthcare services, strengthening the UAE’s role as a global leader in humanitarian work. With Mirwais Azizi’s historic pledge, the campaign is set to accelerate efforts in bridging healthcare gaps worldwide.

Boundless generosity

Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi lauded Azizi’s generosity, stating that the contribution reflects the UAE’s strong commitment to philanthropy. He emphasised that such initiatives align with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision to establish the UAE as a global hub for sustainable humanitarian projects.

“The UAE’s Ramadan campaigns have created a distinctive philanthropic model that drives impactful contributions from individuals and major institutions alike,” Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi said. “This strategic focus on endowments ensures that key sectors like healthcare and education receive continuous support, transforming millions of lives.”

A personal commitment

Speaking at the event, Mirwais Azizi expressed his deep personal motivation behind the donation. “One of my daughters tragically suffered from an incurable disease, and through this project, we hope to ease the suffering of others facing similar financial burdens,” he said.

The billionaire reaffirmed his company’s dedication to social responsibility, highlighting that the donation is both a tribute to fathers and a reflection of Azizi Developments’ long-term commitment to supporting the UAE’s humanitarian vision.

“We are honoured to be among the first contributors to this blessed endowment campaign,” he said. “This initiative will provide essential medical treatment to those who cannot afford it, offering hope and ensuring that quality healthcare reaches underserved communities.”

This is not the first time Azizi Developments has made a major philanthropic gesture. In March 2024, the company donated Dh600 million to the Mothers’ Endowment campaign, another initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. That campaign aimed to establish an Dh1 billion educational endowment to fund scholarships and skill development programmes for students worldwide. The revenue from an educational complex, built as part of the initiative, will be used to empower students and prepare them for evolving job markets.
